ANC audio files
The Mount Pleasant ANC has made its proceedings exceptionally open to the public. Our meetings
are recorded, and these recordings are available to the public, on CD, upon request, no charge.
Still, it may be a bit inconvenient to request the CD. So I'm going to put those audio
files on this Web site, so that anyone who really wants to know exactly what was said, and
by whom, can find out just by downloading the audio.
The files are rather large, typically 5 to 15 MB, so the download does take some time. It
is possible to simply click on the link and play the audio, but it may be preferable to
right-click on the link, download the file, then play it off-line (using, e.g., Windows
Media Player). That has the enormous advantage of allowing you to jump around the recording
to find exactly what you want to hear, and to play it back at accelerated speed, up to
twice "real time". That beats sitting through the whole file, up to two hours of audio.
This has been made possible only upon switching from our Sony minidisk recorder to an
Olympus voice recorder, a change which brought about a large change in file size. The Sony MP3 files
were over 200 MB in size, way too large for downloading. Hence, I'm starting this practice
with the January, 2008 ANC meeting.
The regular ANC business meetings employ microphones, so the audio recording is reasonably good.
The "informal" ANC meetings do not, but use the audio recorder in "conference" mode, placed on
a table in the middle of the group. That yields inferior audio quality, but keeping the meeting
informal requires permitting people to speak easily, without microphones.
